On October 5, the 2025 Marr Fund Team will participate in the Maine Marathon, Half-Marathon, Relay, and Virtual event for the 10th year. Established by the Marr family, the Josephine and John Marr Alzheimer's Research Fund at Brigham and Women's Hospital directly supports novel and early-stage research aimed at preventing Alzheimer's disease.

Funding medical research works, and very well!! In part due to the work of world-renowned researchers at the Brigham and their collaboration with the Marr family, we now know that Alzheimer?s begins 20 years or more before the onset of symptoms. Backed by more than 30 years of research, Dr. Reisa Sperling and her team are pioneering innovative approaches to advance the prevention and treatment of this devastating disease, including world-wide prevention clinical trials. In 10 years, the Marr Fund team has already made a great impact on furthering Alzheimer?s prevention research, most notably raising $2 million through the Maine Marathon event, and serving as a catalyst for many millions in additional support. Like all medical research, Alzheimer's research is affected, directly and indirectly, by the massive slashes to federal research funding, whether through explicit loss of funds or the knock-on effect of fewer medical professionals in existence who are capable of doing this sort of research.
