My Great Aunt Pretty Penie
On October 5th, The Marr Fund team will be participating in the 2025 Maine Marathon for the eleventh year to support the Josephine (my Great Aunt Pretty Penie) and John Marr Alzheimer’s Research Fund at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. In ten years, the Marr Fund team has already made a great impact on furthering Alzheimer’s preventative research. Raising over $2.85 million through the Maine Marathon event.
I have participated in the Maine Marathon for the past nine years, running on a relay team among family members. I am very excited to be running the second leg, which is 8.8 miles compared to the 6 miles I usually run during the first leg. I’m asking for your support, any amount makes a difference. Thank you for joining me in this fight to prevent Alzheimer’s. Together we can make a difference- now and for future generations.
We now know that Alzheimer’s begins 20 years or more before the onset of symptoms. The Marr family–together with world-renowned researchers at our hospital–are focused on finding a way to stop Alzheimer’s disease altogether. Backed by more than 30 years of research, Dr. Reisa Sperling and her team are pioneering innovative approaches to advance the prevention and treatment of this devastating disease, including world-wide prevention clinical trials.
