Why I am running the Maine Marathon Relay

Once again, on the first Sunday of October, I will join many family members and friends to run on a relay team, Honan's Heroes, as part of the 2025 Marr Fund Team in the Maine Marathon.
I am running in honor of my dear aunt, Josephine Marr, fondly called "Pretty Penie". Penie was not a typical aunt. I spent a lot of time with her and loved her dearly. She was taken from all of us way too soon as she was debilitated with Alzheimer's.
The Josephine and John Marr Alzheimer's Research Fund at Brigham and Women's Hospital was established to honor Josephine and to fund important research that is making incredible strides in early-stage research and ultimately in prevention. Yes, prevention!
We now know that Alzheimer?s begins 20 years or more before the onset of symptoms. The Marr family?together with world-renowned researchers at the Brigham?are focused on finding a way to stop Alzheimer?s disease altogether. Backed by more than 30 years of research, Dr. Reisa Sperling and her team are pioneering innovative approaches to advance the prevention and treatment of this devastating disease, including world-wide prevention clinical trials. You can read more about the research here: https://give.brighamandwomens.org/marr-fund/
Thank you for supporting my run and joining us in this fight to prevent Alzheimer?s. Together, we are making a difference.
