Abby Psyhogeos fundraising for Marr Alzheimer's Fund
On October 1st, the Marr Fund Team will participate in the 2023 Maine Marathon to support the Josephine and John Marr Alzheimer’s Research Fund at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Thanks to the support of friends like you, the Marr Fund has launched a generosity network. Since the fund was established:
1. thousands of gifts have been received from friends and strangers, totaling $4.5 million.
2. In eight years of participating in the Maine Marathon, the Marr Fund team has raised over $1.6 million through the Maine Marathon alone.
3. Our work has also inspired others to philanthropically support parallel research efforts, engaging their own social networks and raising millions in additional funds, including a $25 million gift from Andrew and Kate Davis.
Just recently two drugs have been approved by the FDA for treatment of alzheimers. This is incredibly exciting and is just the beginning!!
The Marr Fund support is currently being directed to two key projects:
o The Genetic and Biological Roadmap to Alzheimer’s Disease.
Dr. Tracy Young-Pearse is using stem cells to better understand genetic risk in different people and identify paths toward novel treatments.
o Resiliency to Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Rachel Buckley aims to identify the characteristics (genetic, lifestyle, brain health, demographics) that make some people more resilient to Alzheimer’s. She is also examining whether women are more vulnerable or resilient to Alzheimer’s compared with men.
As my nephew Matthew wrote in his testimonial "Alzheimer's leaves no survivors who can be advocates". We, the loved one's who lost family to Alzheimer's, are the advocates for this disease. For the 9th year, I run in honor and memory of, my mother Josephine Marr and for all those families who are suffering as they witness the tragic decline of a loved one with Alzheimer's Disease.
Thank you for joining us in this fight to prevent Alzheimer’s. Together we can make a difference—now and for future generations.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT
