Hi, I’m Alvaro, and I’m excited to announce that I’m running the 2025 Boston Marathon to support the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center!

Running has been a constant in my life for over two decades, and while it’s always been a personal passion, this time I’m running for something greater than myself. The Stepping Strong Center supports survivors of traumatic injuries, helping them recover and thrive through innovative treatments and research. It’s a cause that means so much to me, not only because of the impact it has on people's lives but also because of my personal connection to Gillian Reny’s story.

The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center was created in honor of Gillian Reny, a survivor of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. After sustaining life-threatening injuries that left her doctors unsure if she would ever walk again, Gillian’s recovery became a symbol of hope and resilience. Thanks to the groundbreaking work of the Stepping Strong Center, Gillian has not only regained her ability to walk but has gone on to do extraordinary things. The Fund supports trauma research, recovery programs, and innovative treatments, giving survivors of severe injuries the chance to heal and live full lives.

As a Massachusetts resident for over eight years, I’ve come to understand what the Boston Marathon means to this city. It’s not just a race—it’s a celebration of Boston’s strength, resilience, and unbreakable spirit.

This journey holds even more meaning for me, as I know the Reny family personally. I’ll never forget hearing about Gillian’s injuries in 2013, when Danielle (Gillian's sister) had told my sister Sofia what had happened. Gillian’s story hit close to home. And to now be running the Boston Marathon to raise money for a fund named in her honor is both humbling and motivating.

Having completed my first half marathon in May, I’m ready for the challenge ahead. Training for the Boston Marathon will be tough, but I’m running with purpose and with a heart full of gratitude for the chance to help others on their own recovery journeys.

How You Can Help:

This is where you come in! I’m asking for your support as I run the 2025 Boston Marathon for the Stepping Strong Center. Your donation will directly fund life-saving research, rehabilitation programs, and innovative treatments that will help trauma survivors like Gillian. Every dollar you contribute helps provide hope, recovery, and new possibilities for people who need it most.

Please join me in supporting this incredible cause. Every mile I run will bring us closer to providing the care and recovery people need to reclaim their lives. Your contribution—no matter the size—will make a real difference.

Thank you for supporting me, the Stepping Strong Center, and the inspiring individuals whose strength is helping them rise above trauma. Together, we can make a lasting impact.
