I am excited to announce that I will be running the 2025 Boston Marathon on April 21st, as part of the Brigham Stepping Strong Team. This journey is not just a personal challenge; it’s a heartfelt mission to support those impacted by traumatic injuries, especially traumatic brain injuries, which have profoundly affected my life.

In 2012, my world changed when I experienced a traumatic brain injury. The road to recovery was long and filled with obstacles, but it also ignited a fire within me to raise awareness and support for others facing similar challenges. The resilience and strength I witnessed in my recovery inspired me to give back to the community that supported me through the toughest times.

In 2013, Boston was changed forever when a beautiful Marathon Monday turned into a senseless tragedy. Gillian Reny, then a high school senior, was one of 39 critically injured patients rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where doctors and nurses saved her life and legs. With gratitude to the Brigham, the Reny family established The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation to help other trauma patients regain their strength and ability to step strong once again.

The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation aims to catalyze trauma innovation for injured civilians and military heroes through multidisciplinary investigative collaborations across the continuum of trauma care, from prevention to treatment and recovery. Stepping Strong-funded initiatives are making a profound impact on trauma survivors and their families worldwide. The center has raised more than $30 million to fuel trauma research, advance education, build community, and inspire advocacy. But much more needs to be done.

Why I’m Running:

  • To Honor Others: I run for everyone who has been impacted by a traumatic injury—those who have faced physical, emotional, and psychological challenges. Your stories fuel my determination.

  • To Support Research and Care: Funds raised through my efforts will directly support innovative research, rehabilitation programs, and patient care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Together, we can help improve outcomes for those affected by traumatic injuries.

  • To Inspire Hope: My journey symbolizes the belief that we can overcome obstacles, no matter how daunting. I want to show others that recovery is possible, and there is a community of support waiting to embrace them.

How You Can Help:

I am aiming to raise $9,000 to support the Brigham Stepping Strong initiative. Every dollar counts and will make a difference in the lives of those affected by traumatic injuries. Here’s how you can contribute:

  1. Donate: Please consider making a donation, no matter the size. Your generosity will have a direct impact on research and support for individuals like me. If your company has a matching program - send the confirmation email to marathonteam@bwh.harvard.edu to ensure the funds go to the right place!

  2. Share My Page: Spread the word! Share my fundraising page with your network. The more people who know, the greater our impact.

  3. Encourage Others: If you know someone who has been affected by a traumatic injury, share this page with them. Together, we can create a community of hope and support. I will be hosting fundraising events over the next 6 months so stay in

Thank You for Your Support!

As I prepare to take on the Boston Marathon, I carry with me the stories and strength of those I run for. I am grateful for your support and encouragement every step of the way. Together, we can make a difference for individuals impacted by traumatic injuries and help pave the way for brighter futures.

Let’s step strong together!
