I am honored to share that I am running the 130th Boston Marathon this April in support of the Stepping Strong Team for Trauma Innovation at Brigham and Women's Hospital!
Founded by survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing, The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is transforming how we prevent, treat, and recover from traumatic injury—one of the leading causes of death in the United States. On April 15, 2013, Gillian Reny was standing near the finish line when her life changed forever. A senseless act of violence left her with devastating injuries, but the extraordinary efforts of a multidisciplinary team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital saved her life and her legs. In gratitude, her family established the Stepping Strong Center, which today advances trauma care through research grants, fellowships, education, and patient-centered initiatives—uniting healthcare professionals, policymakers, and communities to revolutionize trauma care and rebuild lives.
This mission is incredibly personal to me. As many of you may know, I work as a Registered Nurse in the float pool at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Each day I witness the reality of trauma—patients at their most vulnerable, facing sudden illness, devastating injuries, and life-altering moments. I see how fragile life can be, how quickly everything can change, and also how powerful healing and human resilience truly is.
My work reminds me every day that movement is a gift. Running the Boston Marathon with the Stepping Strong Team is my way of giving back to the patients who have taught me so much. Recovery isn’t linear or done alone, and Stepping Strong helps make that progress possible.
Through its work, Stepping Strong:
- Fuels Research by supporting clinical studies and collaborative projects that accelerate solutions and improve patient outcomes
- Reimagines Care by embracing the latest science to redefine best practices and transform trauma care for survivors
- Advances Education by training the next generation of trauma leaders and empowering the public to respond to trauma
- Inspires Advocacy by championing survivors and injury prevention through awareness,
Thank you for being part of this journey with me!!
