Boston Strong, Stepping Stronger!!
Hi everyone!
I am honored to announce that I am running the Boston Marathon this April with the Brigham Stepping Strong team in support of my best friend, (Maria) Paz!
Paz has always been such a light in my life since meeting her in the 3rd grade. She lights up every room she walks into and approaches life with an unending curiosity and enthusiasm, always eager to learn, grow and challenge herself.
Yet on June 3rd, 2022, she never made it to our high school graduation due to a traumatic car accident on her drive home from Cape Cod that very morning. After almost losing her leg, I drove week after week to Brigham and Womens to sit with her as she learned how to walk again. Her unwavering resilience through ceaseless pain, fatigue and uncertainty was moving. And by some miracle, many even, she is stepping strong once again.
I will never be able to thank the team at Brigham and Womens for being one of those miracles.
The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation at the Brigham drives a relentless pursuit to transform how we prevent, treat, and recover from traumatic injury, the leading cause of death for people ages 44 and younger in the United States. This organization saved my best friends life and my goal is to raise $11,000 to help sustain this life-changing work. I would be incredibly grateful for your support in achieving this goal—every donation makes a difference!
While marathon training is challenging (especially in the Wisconsin winter!), the strength and resilience of Paz and so many others enduring rehabilitation remind me why I work so hard to achieve this goal.
Thank you so much for your support!
Brooke
