Update, February 6, 2026
73 days until the 130th Boston Marathon. Marathon training is no joke!  Earlier this year I slipped on the ice.  A week later I was hit by a car on a run.  A week after that I rolled my ankle stepping in the snow.  Add to that the lovely New England winter we are suffering through and it has made for some great runs.  Thankfully nothing broken, bent, torn, or frozen and the miles go on. As usual, running on the course each weekend has been nothing short of amazing.  I've met incredible, motivating, dedicated, inspiring lifelong friends on this journey and it makes the miles that much easier.

I am just at 50% of my initial fundraising goal, with more from Super Bowl Squares.  (Go Patriots!)  Please read about the amazing work this charity does for trauma prevention, innovation and care.

Be on the look-out for the Birthday Bonanza fundraiser!

Thank you all for the continued support!

Update, December 2, 2025
139 days until the 130th Boston Marathon!  This is when the miles really start to ramp up.  Sunday I will be doing my 3rd half marathon this fall...halfway there with the miles.  Because of all you awesome folks, with just a few more donations, I will be at 1/3 of my fundraising commitment!  I have some fun ideas brewing for fundraisers coming up.  Stay tuned!

***************************************************************

Ooooops I did it again! I am psyched to announce that I am running the 130th Boston Marathon in April for the Stepping Strong 2026 Marathon Team. This will be my 7th!  I will be counting on all of you, my friends and family, for your continued support and encouragement. With just over 375 people donating only $26.20, I can surpass my first fundraising benchmark!
Traumatic injury, though largely preventable, is the leading cause of death for children and adults up to the age of 44 and affects everyone, regardless of age, race, or economic status. They can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time—in military combat, on athletic fields, in motor vehicle accidents, and, sadly, in terror attacks.

It is really hard to put into words the amazing work that this charity does for trauma research and innovation.  There is no one liner or buzzword that people can wrap their head around and say, "yeah I get it, I want to support that".Here are examples of the work that The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation is committed to:-Offering physician-scientists critical seed grants

-Educating the next generation of medical leaders

-Improving injury prevention and empowering the public to act as first responders in life-threatening emergencies

-Connecting like-minded researchers and clinicians from diverse specialties such as bioengineering, emergency medicine, plastic surgery, orthopedics, and injury prevention

-Transform care for civilians and military heroes who endure traumatic injuries and events

Please read more about the amazing team, its history, mission, and please consider donating today.  Any size donation is greatly appreciated.  And, let me know if your company has matching contributions for double the impact!

Here we go again folks!!

From Start to Finish! (If you know you know)

Kristen

 ***********************************************************************************

In 2013, Boston was changed forever when a beautiful Marathon Monday turned into a senseless tragedy. Gillian Reny, then a high school senior, was one of 39 critically injured patients rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where doctors and nurses saved her life and legs. With gratitude to the Brigham, the Reny family established The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation to help other trauma patients regain their strength and ability to step strong once again. The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation aims to catalyze trauma innovation for injured civilians and military heroes through multidisciplinary investigative collaborations across the continuum of trauma care, from prevention to treatment and recovery. Stepping Strong-funded initiatives are making a profound impact on trauma survivors and their families worldwide. The center has raised more than $30 million to fuel trauma research, advance education, build community, and inspire advocacy. But much more needs to be done.Trauma is a neglected global epidemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control:
  • Trauma is the number one cause of death for people 44 or younger, ahead of cancer and heart disease.
  • Traumatic injuries comprise 40% of visits to emergency departments.
  • More than $2 trillion per year is spent on decreased productivity, work loss, and medical costs due to traumatic injuries.
  • Despite the significant burden of trauma, less than 2% of federal funding is allocated toward trauma research, inhibiting our ability to understand how to prevent, treat, and improve recovery from traumatic injury.
The Stepping Strong Center remains committed to serving as a leader in trauma research and innovation to bridge this gap and advance the field of trauma care. When you support a member of the Brigham's Stepping Strong Boston Marathon Team, you are helping the center turn tragedy into hope for civilians and military heroes worldwide who have suffered devastating traumatic injuries.
Thank you for supporting this extraordinary group of runners and continuing to honor the Boston Strong spirit that still defines our city today.
