Tim Freiberg's BOSTON MARATHON Fundraising Page
For these reasons, I've decided to team with the Brigham and Women's Hospital's Stepping Strong Marathon Team for my journey in Boston. One of their primary goals is to help people would have dealt with traumatic injuries and to develop programs and research to help those individuals in the future. They also deal with veterans and other individuals who have suffered mental trauma as a result of their service and experiences. I couldn't think of a better cause and motivation for someone who works with these individuals every day.
Where do you, my friends and family, come in? Simply put, I cannot reach this goal of raising $10,000 alone and I’d love to take you on this journey with me as I chase a dream, but also as we run toward relief for those that suffer from trauma. Would you consider joining my sponsor team so we can reach this goal together? No gift is too big or too small! In return, I’d be honored to wear your name that day as I race on April 21, 2025! As they say “if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” I’ll write every donor’s name on my race hat so we can tackle the Boston Marathon together. You can also choose to have a friend or loved one’s name in your place if you know someone who suffers from a traumatic injury, abuse aftermath, or PTSD. I’d proudly run this race in their honor and yours.
Lastly, so you know and can trust where your gifts will be heading through the Brigham and Women's Hospital's Stepping Strong Marathon Team: In 2013, Boston was changed forever when a beautiful Marathon Monday turned into a senseless tragedy. Gillian Reny, then a high school senior, was one of 39 critically injured patients rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where doctors and nurses saved her life and legs. With gratitude to the Brigham Hospital, the Reny family established The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation to help other trauma patients regain their strength and ability to step strong once again. The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation aims to catalyze trauma innovation for injured civilians and military heroes through multidisciplinary investigative collaborations across the continuum of trauma care, from prevention to treatment and recovery. Stepping Strong-funded initiatives are making a profound impact on trauma survivors and their families worldwide. The center has raised more than $30 million to fuel trauma research, advance education, build community, and inspire advocacy. But much more needs to be done. Trauma is a neglected global epidemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control:
- Trauma is the number one cause of death for people 44 or younger, ahead of cancer and heart disease.
- Traumatic injuries comprise 40% of visits to emergency departments.
- More than $2 trillion per year is spent on decreased productivity, work loss, and medical costs due to traumatic injuries.
- Despite the significant burden of trauma, less than 2% of federal funding is allocated toward trauma research, inhibiting our ability to understand how to prevent, treat, and improve recovery from traumatic injury.
