My running journey began as a personal challenge in my late 30s. With no prior experience and a lot of initial nervousness, I joined a group of runners one dark, early January morning. This group eventually became my closest adult friends. After a few years of training for half marathons and building friendships, I secretly applied for a marathon, surprising my group when we all got in. The training was arduous, but the support from our close-knit running community made it unforgettable. Like many in the running community, we forget the hard training and remember the thrill of victory with a finisher medal!

Keeping this mindset I continued running marathons, never thinking it was possible for complete the Six World Major Marathons. However, with my amazing group of supportive running friends, we have now traveled together around the world including New York in 2018, Berlin in 2019, Chicago in 2021, and London in 2022. Most recently 2 other incredible Dallas Ladies and I trekked to Japan and completed the Tokyo Marathon in 2024. It is important to set goals and achieve them!

With that, I am now able to share the excitement that I am running the Boston Marathon in 2025 to achieve my 6th Star and complete my 8th marathon. Nothing makes me happier than being able to achieve this goal with friends who have been with me along the way and while supporting such a wonderful organization as BWH Stepping Strong!

In 2013, Boston was changed forever when a beautiful Marathon Monday turned into a senseless tragedy. Gillian Reny, then a high school senior, was one of 39 critically injured patients rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where doctors and nurses saved her life and legs. With gratitude to the Brigham, the Reny family established The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation to help other trauma patients regain their strength and ability to step strong once again. The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation aims to catalyze trauma innovation for injured civilians and military heroes through multidisciplinary investigative collaborations across the continuum of trauma care, from prevention to treatment and recovery. Stepping Strong-funded initiatives are making a profound impact on trauma survivors and their families worldwide. The center has raised more than $30 million to fuel trauma research, advance education, build community, and inspire advocacy. But much more needs to be done. The Stepping Strong Center remains committed to serving as a leader in trauma research and innovation to bridge this gap and advance the field of trauma care. When you support a member of the Brigham's Stepping Strong Boston Marathon Team, you are helping the center turn tragedy into hope for civilians and military heroes worldwide who have suffered devastating traumatic injuries.
