In 2013, Boston was forever changed when the Marathon became the scene of a tragic event. Gillian Reny, a high school senior, was one of 39 critically injured patients saved by the dedicated team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. In gratitude, the Reny family established The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation, which aims to advance trauma care for civilians and military heroes through innovative research and multidisciplinary collaboration. Trauma is the leading cause of death for people under 44 and accounts for 40% of emergency department visits, yet it receives less than 2% of federal funding for research. With a center like Stepping Strong, we have raised over $30 million to support trauma research, education, and advocacy, making a profound impact on survivors and their families worldwide!
