Join Irena King and Stepping Strong to Help Transform Care for Trauma Patients!
Dear Family, Friends, and Stepping Strong Supporters,
I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be running my very first marathon as part of the Brigham Stepping Strong Marathon Team! This opportunity is deeply personal to me, as it aligns with my passion for improving the lives of individuals facing significant health challenges and trauma—an issue I’ve witnessed firsthand among my own friends and family in life-altering situations. Hearing the words “there’s nothing we can do” time and again shaped my commitment to healthcare innovation.
As the founder of Surgicure Technologies, I’ve worked to develop medical devices inspired by military innovations to improve outcomes for trauma and burn patients. Our mission at Surgicure aligns closely with the Stepping Strong Center’s dedication to advancing trauma research and care. Unfortunately, funding for trauma-related research has historically been inadequate, and we urgently need your help to change that.
I’m asking for your support to help me reach my campaign goal of raising $10,000 for The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation. Every tax-deductible gift supporting Stepping Strong runners directly funds groundbreaking research and care. If your employer offers matching grants, your impact can be doubled!
Click "GIVE NOW" to make a generous donation. You can make your gift personal by honoring or remembering a loved one, and I’d love for you to share your story in the "Additional comments about my gift" section. Together, we can give back, uplift the Stepping Strong runners toward Boston 2025, and make a meaningful impact.
I will be running for my family, friends, patients, warfighters, and everyone who has ever heard the words “there’s nothing we can do.” Together, we can replace hopelessness with hope and ensure that every patient has access to life-saving solutions.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting this mission!
With gratitude,
Irena King

P.S. Learn more about The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation below!
- Trauma is the number one cause of death for people 44 or younger, ahead of cancer and heart disease.
- Traumatic injuries comprise 40% of visits to emergency departments.
- More than $2 trillion per year is spent on decreased productivity, work loss, and medical costs due to traumatic injuries.
- Despite the significant burden of trauma, less than 2% of federal funding is allocated toward trauma research, inhibiting our ability to understand how to prevent, treat, and improve recovery from traumatic injury.
