Ty's 2024 Boston Marathon Fundraiser
The 2024 Boston Marathon will mark my 23rd consecutive Boston Run and 10th year running for Stepping Strong/Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH).
I'm back running in support of the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation, as this is an organization I truly believe in. The work they are doing here not only impacts the lives of us here in Boston, but the lives of people around the world. Therefore, in supporting BWH you are not just supporting a Boston area hospital, you are supporting and organization that is impacting the lives of people across our planet no matter where you live.
Beyond this, I have a very close and personal connection to BWH, as both of my children were born here, and when my family had a need several years ago, the BWH team was there to take care of us. In short, if it were not for the great folks at BWH, you might not be looking at the family you see in the picture I have included on this page.
With this being said, I strongly encourage you to support my run this year, as you will not only be supporting me, but more importantly you will be supporting an organization that is impacting the lives of many people across the planet. While you may not know it, the work being done at BWH has likely already impacted you or someone you love, or one day it will.

So, what is the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation?
On April 15, 2013, Gillian Reny was one of the many innocent bystanders critically injured at the finish line in the Boston Marathon bombings. She was rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), where doctors and nurses worked heroically to save her life—and both of her legs. In gratitude to BWH, the Reny family established the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation to help trauma patients like Gillian regain their strength and ability to step strong once again.
To date, the center has raised more than $17.5 million to support trauma innovation and recovery while upholding the Boston Strong spirit that defined the aftermath of the marathon tragedy. But much more needs to be done.
Although trauma accounts for 41 million Emergency Department visits a year and is the leading cause of death for people ages 1-46 in the United States, funding for trauma research and care is scarce. The 2020 BWH Stepping Strong Marathon Team will advance BWH’s commitment to turn tragedy into hope for citizens, military personnel, and families worldwide who have been impacted by the devastation of traumatic injuries and events.
