On June 22nd I will be running the Boston Athletics Association 10k with a team of colleagues ~The Path-letes~ from our Pathology Department for the Brigham and Women's Hospital. Over the last 2 years working for this institution I have seen so many interesting cases and have had the opportunity to learn far more about the human body and pathological diseases than I ever thought possible. One of the specialties that has piqued my interest the most is gynecological oncology, specifically uterine and ovarian cancer. Many of our faculty have projects dedicated to researching these areas, but with cuts to NIH funding, they’ve been forced to scale back their current work, which will also impact future projects. The funds I raise will go directly to our GYN fellows and attendings--whom I have built strong relationships with during my time here--to support their research and allow them to continue their important work in helping women beat cancer.
