In early 2024, I noticed a lump on the left side of my neck. A simple Google search told me I either had a common cold or cancer. A couple of consults, an ultrasound, and a biopsy later, my doctor confirmed the latter - I had papillary thyroid cancer that had spread to the lymph nodes in my neck. Luckily for me, this type of cancer is very treatable, and I very quickly had a team of doctors working on my treatment plan. In April and June 2024, I had surgeries to remove my entire thyroid and thirty lymph nodes, followed by radioactive iodine treatment in September 2024. It's taking some time for my body to adjust to it's new thyroid-less normal, but I am so grateful for the doctors, surgeons, nurses, oncologists, and endocrinologists at BWH and Dana Farber that worked so quickly, and continue to work to provide me care and make my health feel like a priority.
