I'm running this year to help raise funds for an inspiring group of researchers who study lung disease.

The Channing Division of Network Medicine (CDNM) is the largest research-only division within BWH and home to approximately 300 employees. The world-famous Nurses’ Health Study, which is among the largest longitudinal investigations of women’s health, was initiated by our investigators. We focus on using the breadth and depth of health information and biological samples gathered from more than 300,000 individuals over the years in multiple research study populations (“Big Data”) to better understand factors that contribute to the development and progression of various complex diseases. In this way, we strive to provide new treatments and disease preventative strategies. Our diverse team of scientists develop new data analysis methods and discover novel findings from research based on this wealth of population-based data that result in more than 400 published scientific articles each year. Recent examples include the observation that low dose aspirin use may reduce the risk of colon cancer and identification of genetic factors that increase risk of developing asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
